My favorite talk from this week was Bryan’s, though Joe’s was a close second. I’ve read into the geometry of music a little bit, and it is really interesting to think that you can distinguish pieces using topological notions. I imagine there was a lot of work behind the scenes of Bryan’s talk as well too. It was probably difficult to figure out what the results are actually discerning or capable of discerning. It’s neat stuff. I bet knots are somewhere in there too.

Oh, if there was a relation to knot theory, I wonder if there would be any cool ways to visualize musical compositions or books in terms of knots or braids! Definitely just wild speculation, but I think it’s a fun idea.

I agree that Bryan had a great talk. He did well explaining how to potentially use persistent homology in music. I also agree that Joe had a great talk.
