I think Ben’s presentation on teaching topology in middle school was the best. I think that it is very important to get an early start in topics like topology, and getting an introduction in middle school would really help. I liked how he created lessons for introducing the basic concepts in topology, which would not be too complicated for middle school, and at the same time would give students the required push to explore the topic of topology.

I also really enjoyed Ben’s presentation. I thought the topic was rather creative and interesting. The way he presented the project also seemed very practical and in depth. I also do believe it’d be helpful to have these “abstract” mathematical ideas introduced earlier in our education system.

I’m always in favor of bringing advanced topics to students at a younger age if it can be done effectively. Unfortunately, the requirements for math teachers in the US are pretty low, and it’s difficult to come across teachers competent enough to have heard of these topics let alone understand them enough to teach them in any sort of meaningful way. It’s really encouraging, for me at least, to see someone willing to take on such a big and important task.
