The first week of presentations definitely set a pretty high bar for the rest of the class. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I have to say, though, my favorite was Sid’s presentation on the application of topology in network sensor coverage. As an engineering student, as interesting as theoretical physics and mathematics sound, nothing beats a good real life application. The concept of the topic was very interesting and applicable. The flow of the presentation, from the motivation to the details of the application, along with its challenges, was easy to follow and understand. Overall, it was a well put together presentation. I look forward to learning more through the presentations in the upcoming weeks.

It was definitely was very nice to see such a realistic problem. It really seems like a perfect application for topology, and Sid did a good job explaining it.

Yeah, I chose Sid’s as well. It’s not just the engineering students who like applications.
The sensor network problem seems like the hallmark for applied topology, but maybe it’s just because Ghrist worked on it and we see a lot of his stuff.

I agree, his presentation was really good. I really liked how he talked about the algorithms that were used in it as well.
