I’ll be doing the final project on how to classify knots. I’m interested in doing this project because knots have associated polynomials and classification schemes which are applicable to many science fields. The field of current interest is Physics.

Recently, 2010, a paper titled Isolated optical light vortex knots was published. This paper showed that characteristic field lines of zero intensity can be realized in the physical realm as dark zones in light. The propagation of three plane waves of light produces this experimentally. The relevant subject of interest from this research paper is how this physical realization can be used to deduce the global topology of the system.
